林毅夫的世行使命

Lin Yifu's Mission in the World Bank

我在芝加哥大学的老同学，也是多年的老朋友林毅夫，今年5月底将走马上任，成为世界银行的首席经济学家兼负责发展经济学的高级副行长。世行成立以来多次任命过来自发展中国家，包括来自中国的常任或高级副行长，但林毅夫是第一位来自中国，也是第一位来自发展中国家的首席经济学家。可以预见，他对世行的政策走向一定会产生深远的影响。

Wen Guanzhong,professor of Economics Department of the Trinity College,USA, is a schoolmate of Lin Yifu at the University of Chicago and also an old friend for many years.Lin Yifu,at the end of May of this year,will become the Chief Economist of the World Bank and the Senior Vice President thereof in charge of Economics.Wen Guanzhong stated his opinion in this article that Lin Yifu will certainly bring far-reaching impact on the direction of the World Bank's policy. In 1987 Lin Yifu returned to the motherland.Since then,he has accumulated exactly 20 years of rich experience of life,research,and participation in policy-making in China.Wen Guanzhong also observes that,in the future,it will be an enormous challenge for Lin Yifu to promote China's experience in developing countries with totally different country situations, African countries in particular in a selective way.It is believed that cooperation between Lin Yifu and the World Bank will definitely help the World Bank in helping developing countries to overcome poverty,and to share the world prosperity,which will move a great step further in realization of its millennium goals.
