摘要 London 1948 Wembley Stadium1, built for the 1924 British Empire Exhibition2, was a fitting venue3 for the return of the Olympic Games after the Second World War. Germany and Japan, the aggressors4, were excluded from the Games, as was the USSR5, since it had no affiliation6 to the IOC. The athletes were housed in army barracks7 since there was no money to build an Olympic village, and they had to supply their own food, as rationing8 was still in force9.
