The current emphasis of EMR solutions in China is to collect and store medical information on a computer platform. While the real and most important core value of EMR is to satisfy information needs of clinicians at the point of care and thus improve the quality of care by assisting the decision making process of clinicians. The purpose of this article is to introduce some of the major algorithms of decision support and their application cases, as well as their impact on clinical activities. Hopefully this could provide good reference for the development of intelligent and knowledge based EMR in China.
