In April to July 1999, in coordination with the construction of a highway in Qixia City, the Yantai Municipal Museum and the Qixia Office for the Preservation of the Ancient Monuments in the Mou Family Manor carried out jointly a salvaging excavation on the Guzhendu site. The work covered an area of approximately 400 sq m, where the excavators revealed 15 tombs, the foundations of six houses and three ditches of the mid and late Dawenkou culture. The unearthed objects include stone implements, bone artifacts and pottery vessels of the jar, ding tripod, basin, cup, bo bowl and stand types. The most important is the discovery of House-foundation 5, which provided for the first time the complete form of the then dwelling and made up a gap in Jiaodong archaeology. The excavation brought to light highly significant material data on the customs and tomb shape of the Dawenkou culture in the Jiaodong Peninsula.
