Shanghai Golden Coal Chemical New Technology Co., Ltd. has officially signed with Tongliao municipal government an agreement on construction of a 1.2 Mt/a ethylene glycol （EG） unit based on clean brown coal. This project will be constructed in Tongliao economic and technical development area inside Inner Mongolia based on the ethylene glycol technology with independent intellectual property rights developed jointly by Shanghai Golden Coal Chemical New Technology Co. and CAS using coal as the starting material via the process scheme composed of carbonylation and hydrogenation. The phase one project will have a capacity of 200 kt/a EG with investment totaling 1.5 billion RMB, and will be put on stream by the end of 2008.
