A Brief Survey of the Contemporary Spatial Criticism

空间批评是西方社会文化后现代化的产物,它是文化地理学吸收了文化研究等后现代理论后形成的一种文学批评方法。空间批评经历了早期的空间社会定位、中期的文化定位以及近年来的超空间属性研究等阶段。文本中的空间不再是静止的"容器",而是一种蕴含多维文化信息的指涉系统,是一种隐喻。空间批评注重研究文本中空间的社会、文化及多种后现代属性,进而揭示文本中空间的多维意义。

Spatial Criticism roots itself on the postmndern culture and society. It develops itself with Cultural Geography, and absorbs some postmndern literary theories like cultural studies etc. and forms its theoretical foundation. Spatial criticism experiences the three following stages as the early social orientation of space; the middle cultural orientation of space, and the super space studies in recent years. The space in a literary text is a multi-cultural referential system rather than a static “container”. In practice, Spatial Criticism regards the space as a metaphor and emphasizes its social, cultural and the pestmndern properties, and tries to reveal its multiple meanings.
