From the Peripheral to the Center:A Review of the History of Foreign Gothic Studies

国外哥特小说批评历经240余年的酝酿、发酵和膨胀,最终爆发成了一个批评话语的狂欢之场。大致可以将这一过程分为三个历史阶段,即边缘化阶段(1764-1920)、合法化阶段(1920-1970)和批评视角多元化阶段(1970至今)。鉴于国内英国哥特小说系统研究的稀缺状况,对国外这方面的研究背景加以仔细梳理,可以为国内研究者提供一个较高的研究起点,以避免低层次的简单重复。

After about 240 years＇ development, Gothic critics have finally burst into a carnivalesque storm of critical speeches. English Gothic novel studies have gone through three observable stages since the publication of the first Gothic novel ： marginalization, legitimization and multiplization of research perspectives. In view of the domestic shortage of systematic studies on British Gothic novels, the present paper attempts a careful review of relevant research abroad so as to set up a solid foundation for further research and to avoid simple repetitions of such studies.
