Errors in Guo Pu's Interpretation of Literary Expositor(Er Ya) and Dialects

郭璞的古书注解对后世训诂学的影响是很大的,《尔雅》、《方言》的注释尤其如此。然而,其注释也存在着一些明显的失误。如:注释体例不够谨严,释义内容也有一些错误,对名物得名理据阐述欠缺等。

Guo Pu＇ s interpretation of the ancient books has exerted a deep influence on the later textualists, especially in his interpretation of Literary Expositor（Er Ya） and Dialects. However, his interpretation contains some obvious errors such as inconsistent stylistic rules, and unconvincing explanation of the lexieal motivation of some words.
