Objective:To investigate the expression of Skp2 and p27 and their relationship in human epithelial ovarian tumor. Methods: The specimens of patients suffering from adenoma ( n = 20), borderline adenoma( n = 20) and adenocarcinoma ( n = 50) were detected by immunohistochemical method for exploring the expression of skp2 and p27. The findings were analyzed in terms of age group, pathological grade, clinical stage, histological type and the state of lymph node metastasis. Results : Skp2 labeling frequency was increased dramatically in adenocarcinoma compared with adenoma and borderline adenoma ( P 〈 0.01, P 〈 0.01 ), while p27 labeling frequency was significantly lower than that of adenoma and borderline adenoma (P 〈 0.01, P 〈 0.01 ). In adenocarcinoma, Skp2 labeling frequency in pathologic grade Ⅱ - Ⅲ was evidently higher than that of pathologic grade Ⅰ ( P 〈 0.05 ), and clinical stage Ⅲ - Ⅳ presented prominent compared with clinical stage Ⅰ - Ⅱ (P〈 0. 001 ). The expression of p27 in pathologic grade Ⅱ - Ⅲ marked lower than that in pathologic grade I (P〈0.01) ,and clinical stage Ⅲ - Ⅳ was less frequent in comparison with clinical stage Ⅰ - Ⅱ (P 〈 0.05). Specimens with lymph node metastasis showed a higher expression of skp2 ( P 〈 0.001) and a lower expression of p27(P〈0.05) compared with those with no metastasis. Conclusion :The inverse interaction of Skp2 and p27 may correlate with carcinogenesis and progression of human epithelial ovarian adenocarcinoma.
