The Application of Literary Stylistics in Novel Translation

文学文体学继承了传统文学批评的优良传统，以现代语言学为工具，是文艺学和语言学相互渗透融合所产生的边缘学科。由于种种原因，译者在翻译传统的现实主义小说时，往往会忽略语言形式所传达的主题意义和美学效果。而文学文体学理论可以帮助译者更加敏锐地抓住小说语言形式的特点，并将这些特点体现在译文中，从而更完整地保留原作的主题意义和美学效果。本文试图运用文学文体学的理论来探讨西方现实主义小说的中文翻译问题。

Literary stylistics, which inherits the essence of traditional literary criticism with recourse to modern linguistics, is a peripheral science originated from the mutual penetration of literature science and linguistics. Due to various reasons, translators sometimes ignore the theme and esthetical effect transmitted implicitly by the linguistic forms when they are translating novels of traditional realism. However, the theory of literary stylistics can help translators grasp the characteristics of linguistic forms more exquisitely and therefore retain the theme and esthetical effect of the original novels. This thesis tries to discuss the problem of translation from novels of western realism into Chinese by means of the theory of literary stylistics.
