Pragmatic Failures in Translation of Chinese Public Signs

本文以语用学的语用失误理论为分析框架,分析了公示语英译中存在的各类语用失误,指出公示语的英译应注重语用语言等效和社交语用等效。

Within the framework of pragmatic failures proposed by Thomas （1983）, this paper analyzes the pragmatic failures committed in the English translation of public signs and points out pragma-linguistic equivalence and socio-pragmatic equivalence are two principles that should be abided by in the translation of public signs.
