The Well is an important work written by Australian contemporary writer Elizabeth Jolley, which depicts the lives and thoughts of socially marginalized women. From the perspective of feminism, the author is going to analyze the text in three aspects-the conflict between female and patriarchy; the struggle between female and male as well as the self-identification. The social significance of the novel lies in the revealing of the cruelty of man-centered cultural system and the expression of women＇ s yearning for equality and identity.
