摘要
一词多义是人类语言中存在的普遍现象。本文运用认知语言学范畴化理论对英语多义现象产生的的原因和机制进行分析,认为一个词的多个义项是从一个原型义项演变过来的,而各个义项是在认知的基础上通过隐喻、转喻而生成的。
Polysemy is a pervasive phenomenon in human language. This paper mainly discusses how polysemy comes into being in view of the prototype theory within cognitive linguistics. It is concluded that a polysemic word are constituted around one primary meaning known as prototype, and the underlying link between the polysemy of terms is enabled by way of metaphor and metonymy.
