The term consumer society is, for Jean Baudrillard, not a factual description of the contemporary society but a theoretical perspective on consumer society if it exists, which features an object-sign. As a starting point, consumer society has all the potentials for his later developed concepts such as hyper-reality and simulacrum. Looking this way, Consumer society means the loss of Nature and individuality, However, the perspective of production cannot be simply dismissed as Baudrillard ever did; or rather it is more insightful than consumption to interpret capitalism, following Herbert Marcuse.
