现代西方城市住宅是伴随工业化的发展而产生的,问题的社会性决定了其解决途径需要国家的干预和扶植。居住标准是国家干预住宅发展的必要手段。本文主要从居住面积标准方面分析西方主要国家的发展过程。

State intervention has always been an important part of the solution to the massive housing problem in modern times. As a measurement, Floor Area Standards （F.A.S.） are widely adopted in different countries. This paper provides a brief review of the history of the development of F.A.S. in major western countries.
