GSDL： An Abandoned Baby of EDC and ENC？

性别与科学数字图书馆是NSF NSDL基金支持的一个合作项目。虽然它在服务对象、主题创意、资源组织等方面有许多亮点，但是该项目仅仅开展了四年就天折了。除了合作机构和人事变动等特殊原因外，该项目的立项选题、工作流程设计、内容组织等方面也存在不少问题。笔者沿袭案例课堂的内容框架，从资源组织、技术特征、服务特征、管理特征和评价建议几个方面对该项目进行了点评，以期为今后数图发展提供可借鉴之处。

Gender and Science Digital Library （GSDL） is a collaborated digital library program funded by NSF＇ s NSDL in 2001. Designed as a resource for educators, students, and researchers in science and mathematics, the library＇ s focus is on providing materials that encourages women to enter these fields. However, the library weboite has no update since its founder transformed in 2005. This paper provides an overview of the major development of the resources organization and services provided, also POinted out some special issues existed, such as its substantiality and selection technique problems. The lessons emerged from this library included not only its unclear statue but also what happens if and when a digital library loses funding and/or organizational support, which is certainly an important concern that must be addressed in the planning and development of any digital library.
