The Formation of Compound Verbs and Their Stylistic Color

复合动词在中古英语中并不多见,即使到18世纪,它的使用也相当狭隘。但从19--20世纪以来,复合动词的数量与日俱增,而且使用范围越来越广,受到语言学界的关注。本文通过对复合动词的深表层结构、构成方法、语体色彩的分析来说明复合动词的特点,为英语学习者全面了解、掌握应用现代英语中大量涌现的复合动词架设一座桥梁。

Compound verbs could seldom be found in Middle English, and their use had remained quite narrow even up to 18th century. However since 19th and 20th centuries its number has become greater and greater and their use wider and wider. They are drawing the attention of the linguistics. The paper analyzes the structures, formational types and stylistical color of compound verbs,and aims to present their features to those who want to have a good master of them.
