“高句丽”一词的翻译问题刍议

On the Translation of the Word "Gaogouli"

"高句丽"一词在历史上曾有三种含义:一是作为族称,指高句丽族;二是作为地名,汉时曾设高句丽县;三是作为我国历史上的一个地方少数民族政权(作为地方少数民族政权时,其名称也含有地名之意)。作为我国一个历史专业名词,它究竟应该如何翻译,也就是应当如何用罗马(拉丁)字母拼写呢?在对目前我国出现的几种拼写形式分析的基础上,文中认为应该严格按照《汉语拼音方案》规范拼写为Gaogouli。

The word ＂Gaogouli＂ has three meanings in history, firstly, as the ethnic name, it means Gaogouli; secondly, as the place name, Han Dynasty had set the Gaogouli County; thirdly, it means the local minority power in history. As a professional term, how to translate is a problem. The paper proposes that it should be translated ＂Gaogouli＂ according to the Chinese Phonetic Alphabet.
