Most critics hold that Xu Dishan' s earlier proses and novels are full of Buddhist concept and idea. But in fact, Xu Dishan hadn't begun to specialize in the study of Buddhism and Taoism in that period. Holy Rain in Hollow Hills and Spiders Weaving Cobweb didn't incarnate the Buddhist thought of consummation under heaven. At the time of creating, Xu Dishan understood and admitted the tribulation of Buddhist unhappy life idea in his own way. And he expressed the philosophy of life of "Spiders Weaving Cobweb" by using Buddhist words. His attitude to Buddhism was on the understanding of social life attitude and literary aesthetic sensibility of value acception and rejection.
