Objective The expression of regulated on activation normal T cell expressed and secreted(RANTES), stromal cell - derived factor- 1 (SDF - 1 ) and their receptors CCR3 and CXCR4 in patients with tuberculous peritonitis and hepatecellular carcinoma were analyzed, so as to find out the role of chemeokines and their receptors in the pathophysiologieal process of tuberculous and malignant effusion. Methods The concentration of RANTES, SDF- 1 in serum and ascites samples from 16 tuberculous peritonitis and 39 hepatecellular carcinoma patients were determined by enzyme - labeled immunerbent assay(ELISA) and were compare with healthy donors, their receptor CCR3, CXCR4 were analysed by flow cytometer. Results Levels of SDF - 1 and CXCR4 protein in both serum and ascites in patients with tuberculous peritonitis were significantly increased. However, the expression of RANTES and CCR3 were markedly higher in hepatecellular carcinoma patients than those in tuberculous ascites. Conclusions chemeokines and receptors play a different T cell's immune response role in tuberculous and malignant ascites.
