Transformational -Generative Grammar （TGG）, as a major grammar school, has influenced the linguistic field greatly since the 20th century. This paper studies and analyzes the origin and development of TGG, introducing its current research tendencies and forecasting the future development for the purpose to give the language researchers as well as those generative linguists a general understanding of TGG.
