黔东北土家族花灯表演历史悠久,内容丰富,极富土家特点,它的调式特点是:不完全的五声调式,音阶的构成有三音阶、四音阶,其调式主要以三、五度结构和四、五度结构为主,有的是以上两种调式形态的综合运用;曲式体裁较多,主要表现为歌谣体和歌舞体两大类;灯词的艺术特点表现在:广泛、趣味、歌唱和原始性方面;表演形式上的艺术特点有:打座台、金钱年、闹子、锣鼓花灯等等。
