An Analysis of Language Motivation from the Philosophical and Empirical Perspective

作为人类语言的自组织原则,理据性为存在世界和意义生成提供了始源性的动力,也为语言符号能指与所指的结合注入了必然性的秩序。说理据性是存在的,这是它在哲学上的本体论承诺;说理据性是可证的,这是它在经验上的方法论义务。就价值论而言,理据性的本体论建构和方法论考察犹如一座精神的梯子,能帮助我们攀登受制于历史的理解,最终探测到语言的一些本质属性。

As an attribute of human beings, motivation acts as the primary driving force for the generation of the world of being and meaning; as a linguistic principle, motivation ensures the necessary mechanism of the combination of the signifier and the signified. The fact that language motivation exists is its ontological commitment in philosophical foundation;the truth that language motivation can be verified is its methodological basis. In this sense, the study of language motivation is worthwhile in that as an assumptive instrument and it could help us perceive some aspects of language mystery that is often empirically bound by the history of human beings.
