Psychology has great influences and implication on cognitive linguistics. Many theories such as categorization, prototypical theory and schema were borrowed from psychology or indirectly. This article probes into the implications psychology bears on cognitive linguistics and points out the psychological basis of cognitive linguistics, which comes from the following branches of psychology empiricism Gestalt psychology and cognitive psychology.
