The development of Afro-American literature underwent three important periods, which are usually called the three flowering periods in the academic field. The three flowering periods were formed in different periods, and ultimately reached its climax after going through different representations： acceptance in the first flowering period, resistance in the second, and mergence in the third. And the transition and continuation represents the overall venation of Afro-American literature. Exploring the social environment, theoretical trend of thought in literature, and manifestation of the three flowering periods helps us hetter understand this venation.
