Brief Studies on the Views of Laymen's Death in the Temple Read from the Epigraph

在现有的唐代墓志中有很多俗人终于寺观之例,其原因大多是志主迫于现实条件的选择。这表明,作为宗教中心的寺观在当时具有某种社会慈善功能。同时,这也是佛、道二教在唐代获得充分发展后对传统丧葬习俗产生重要影响的表现。

The layman in Tang Dynasty died in temples was frequently seen in Epitaph Records. In a sense the temples had played a social charity role ,though the dying people had no choice but to do so. This was reflection that Buddhism and Taoism had great influence on Chinese traditional funeral custom.
