Literary pragmatics is a new interdisciplinary subject which has great interpretative power in the analysis of literary works. In the novel Death in the Afternoon, Hemingway claims that writing is just like the iceberg based on his own experience and understanding of the writing, ＂There is only one eighth of the iceberg is on the water surface＂, while ＂the readers will naturally sense the other seven eighth of the iceberg, that is, the information the author has omitted as long as authors have expressed exactly and appropriately＂.
