《辩证唯物主义历史唯物主义》是一本由中共中央书记处决定编写的全国党校和高校通用的马克思主义哲学教材,其划时代意义是结束了中国人在自己的课堂上使用苏联哲学教科书的历史。这本书是1956年中央书记处提议、1959年着手编写、1961年出版的。该书在编写过程中参考了苏联1958年出版的《马克思主义哲学原理》等书,虽然受制于社会文化条件,但它仍有自己的特殊品位。

Dialectical Materialism and Historical Materialism is a national philosophy textbook for the course of Marxism used by universities and colleges. Its epoch-making significance lies in the end of using Soviet philosophy textbook in Chinese philosophy class. The book, sponsored by the Secretariat of Central Committee in 1956, was written by some famous scholars and finally published in 1961. Although it has its special quality, the book, due to the social and cultural limitation of the era, was much influenced by The Principle of Marxist Philosophy published in Soviet in 1858.
