Professors played a vital role in the school management of Tsinghua University and Peking University in the late 1940s. The activity scope of professors was not confined to academic events, but also extended to all the school affairs. Professors played their roles both collectively and individually. They not only participated in school governance, but actually had a final say in that process. In fact, they were decision-makers, executors and supervisors of almost all school affairs. So,faculty governance is the most prominent feature of state colleges' governance in the late 1940s.
