王云五与国民党政权统治大陆末期的金圆券币制改革的关系密不可分。就当时各种情况来说,他是主持改革的最佳人选。1948年他出任财长后三易其稿拟定改革方案。改革为蒋介石搜括了许多金银和外币,这是他对蒋的最大贡献。尽管王云五竭力维持金圆券的发行,千方百计平衡收支,解决赤字问题,但在国民党政府军事迅速失败的情况下,金圆券改革的失败根本不可避免。

There＇s a close relation between Wang Yunwu and the Gold Yuan Reform of 1948. He was a person very suitable for presiding over the reform under the condition of that time. After taking up the post of the Minister of Finance, he drew up the reform draft and revised it for three times. The reform snatched many gold and silver as well as foreign currency for Chiang Kai-shek and this was a kind of great contribution Wang Yunwu made to Chiang Kai-shek. Al- though he tried his best to maintain the issue of the Gold Yuan, to strike balance between income and expenditure and to solve the problem of financial deficit,the Gold Yuan Reform had no choice but suffered great defeat under the circumstances of the Kuomintang Army being defeated rapidly.
