不同历史时期,鞑靼名称所指代的范围和内涵有所不同,鞑靼名称有广义狭义两种不同的涵义,狭义的鞑靼是北方游牧民族的一个部落名称;广义的鞑靼是北方民族的泛指称谓,其广义狭义的名称变化与其势力的兴衰有着直接的关系。南宋以来的汉文书籍中鞑靼名称演变为北方民族的统称,甚至成为专指带有贬义色彩的蒙古民族的称谓。

Dada had the different scope and meaning in different history time. Dada has two meaning： the narrow sense is a tribe name of north nationality, and the broad sense is general name of all north nationality. the changing of the name＇s extend is directly relative to the power＇s force or weakness. Dada had become the general name of north nationality in the Chinese books since South Song dynasty. Even become the special name of Mongolian with derogatory sense.
