From Euphemistic to Vulgar——the Transformation Mechanism

现代汉语中有一部分詈骂词在产生之初并没有詈骂含义,而是不带感情色彩的较为文雅的事物名称。但是,由于它们所指代的是社会生活中下层窘困人群、消极的事物,或者是较恶劣的处境,这些词通过隐喻和转喻的方式变得粗俗,已经变成了现代汉语里的詈骂词。

In Modem Chinese, many curses being used today didnt possess such vulgar meanings originally. On the contrary, without any personal emotions involved they used to refer to those things that could bring elegance. Owing to their reference to the poor people of a lower social status, the negative factor or the disgusting situations, these elegant words have completed their vulgarizing transformation through the ways of metaphor and metonymy.
