The effect of three tomato resistant rootstocks introduced from Italy on root-knot nematode second-stage juveniles (J2) and free-living nematode in greenhouse soil was studied. 12 families and 26 genes of free living nematodes were found in investigated greenhouse soils, belonging to four trophic groups: bacterivore, fungivore, herbivore and omnivore nematodes. The investigation results indicate that the three resistant rootstocks extremely reduce root-knot nematode second-stage juvenile (J2) density, thereby effectively controlling root-knot nematode disease. It is also observed that tomato cultivation increases the density of free- living nematodes as against tomato-free soils. There are fewer free-living nematodes in soils with three resistant rootstocks than in soils with susceptible (control) variety, "FA189". In all treatments, bacterivorous nematode is the dominant group of free living nematodes.
