Exploration on Protection of Old Suzhou City during the Fast Development

通过对苏州二十多年的古城保护规划与开发建设实践的反思,揭示出苏州在古城保护进程中所面临的主要问题,总结探索了苏州古城保护规划的新思路和新途径,提出了苏州古城保护应该强调物质与非物质文化遗存保护并存、整体性与多样化特色分区保护并存、动态与静态保护并存以及保护精英的关键性作用等观点,以实现保护与发展的有机协调。

Based on the review of the planning for protection and development of the old Suzhou during more than 20 years, the paper reveals the major problems in protecting the historical city and summarizes some new ideas and approaches to the protection and planning of the old city. The paper suggests that the material cultural heritage and non-material cultural heritage protection should be co-existent, the overall and diverse protection be coexistent, dynamic and static protection be compatible, and protection of the elite be the key point, which will realize the organic harmony between protection and development.
