In the 2008 governmentwor report, rem=er Wen Jiabao set out nine priorities for the Chinese government in 2008. They include： 1） Improving macroeconomic adjustment to maintain fast yet steady economic development; 2） strengthening agriculture as the foundation of the economy, promoting development of agriculture and increasing the income of farmers; 3） promoting economic adjustment and changing the pattern of development; 4） increasing efforts to conserve energy, reduce emissions, and protect the environment and ensuring product quality and safety; 5） deepening reforms of the economic system and raising the level of opening-up to the outside world.
