Although the development of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom has offered the very favorable objective conditions for the uprising of Shanghai Small-Sword Society, it still needs to be analyzed whether both sides have had substantive relation. This paper delves into the initial relations between the Shanghai Small-Sword Society and The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom by studying and investigating some basic historical facts and comes to a conclusion that during the brewing period of the Small-Sword Society in Shanghai, no fundamental relation was established between the two sides.
