Oscar Wilde is distinguished for his paradox characterized by humor, to which the art of lying contributes a lot. He both practised the art of lying and interpreted it as an art of fiction and originality, which is essential in his aesthetic theory. The art of lying not only subverts the moral standard pervasive in England in 19 century but also challenges the literary tradition of realism with overriding status in that country.
