A Comparative Study of Modern Chinese Urban Novels

中国是一个农业大国,人们对都市是陌生的。人们对都市的熟悉和了解是随着都市的迅速崛起、发展而逐渐形成的。20世纪30年代,是中国都市文学风起云涌的时期,在北京有京派作家和老舍的京城文学,在上海有左翼作家和海派文学,他们都以自己最得心应手的方式,展示着都市的风采。

China is a country of agriculture in which people are quite unfamiliar with the metropolis. The familiarity with and understanding of the metropolis on the part of people has arrived along with the rapid emergence and development of the metropolis. In the 1930s-the period of momentous development for urban literature in China, there were in Beijing and Shanghai respectively writers of the Beijing Literary School and the capital literature represented by Lao She as well as the Left-wing writers and literature of the Shanghai Literary School. Those writers of the two literary schools have displayed the splendor and brilliance of the metropolis in their handy manners.
