Cavity ring down (CRD) is a new spectroscopic technique capable of ultrasensitive absorption measurements. It has drawn wide spread interests in the last few years and has found its applications in spectroscopy and trace detection. In this article, we summarize the basic principle, applications and latest development of this technique.
