Study on Moby-Dick from Kantian Philosophy

赫尔曼.麦尔维尔的小说《白鲸》被誉为世界文库中一部史诗般的文学巨著。《白鲸》处处体现了作者对世界、人生、生活等方面的深刻的哲学思考。文章以此为出发点,从德国古典哲学家康德哲学思想的角度解读小说中的主要人物,作者认为小说中的叙事者以实玛利体现了康德的哲学思想,而船长埃哈伯则违背了康德的哲学思想。

Moby- Dick, a classic novel written by Herman Melville, has been considered one of the greatest works in world literature. This novel is enriched with Melville＇s profound speculations on life, the world and human being＇s destiny. This paper, inspired by this, tries to explore its main characters from the philosophical perspective of the eighteenth- century Ger man classic philosopher Immanuel Kant in order to understand this novel and its main characters better. Through exploration, the author finds that the narrator Ishmael represents kant＇s philosophy but the Captain Ahab violates kant＇s philosophy.
