"Good Ways, Good Means"——On Reader Services of the Public Library in Early Modern China

19世纪末20世纪初,中国近代早期公共图书馆作为西学东渐的产物悄然兴起。中国近代早期公共图书馆发展虽然有其落后性,但它的出现给近代中国社会政治、文化教育等方面带来了深刻影响。中国近代早期公共图书馆在读者服务中体现的公共、公平、公益特性在中国图书馆发展史上具有重要意义,它所推行的一些读者服务如"巡回文库"、"邮寄借阅"很具特色。

From the end of 19th to the beginning of 20th, the public library in early modern China as a product introduced from the western to eastern countries developed quietly. Although the public library at that time was backward, its appearance brought deep influence on politics, culture and education in modern China. Reader services of the public library in early modern China had some characters, such as community, equality and public benefits, which had great singificance in the history of the development of Chinese library. It also put forward some special reader services such as ＂travelling library＂, ＂borrow -by-mail＂.
