近现代社会,民族主义运动高涨,它一方面对民族独立和解放起到了推动作用,另一方面也使民族分离主义思想泛滥,增加了国际局势的动荡。面对此种国际形势,我国在处理民族问题上采取了不同于西方国家的制度——民族区域自治制度。经过60年的实践证明民族区域自治制度符合我国国情,它能够在最大限度内维护少数民族的权利,从而实现政治民主、促进少数民族地区经济发展和保护文化多样性。

In the modern society, nationalism movements are on the upsurge, which promotes the national independency and liberation, while making the nation separatism ideology overflow, thus increasing the turbulence of international situation. Against this situation, our country takes the system differing from western countries to deal with the ethnic issues-the system of national regional autonomy. After 60 years of practice this system has been proved to be suitable with the situation of our country, which can maintenance the rights of minority ethnics in maximum, then making the politic democracy come true, and promoting the economic development in the area of minority ethnics and protecting the diversity of culture.
