By employing a pair of metaphor - "sword and pen", this paper examines the spiritual development of Kingston manifested in The Woman Warrior from being a vanguard protesting the sexism and racism pervasive in Chinese American society and mainstream soci- ety respectively to being a mediator striving to build harmony between two genders, two cultures and two ethnic groups, further pointing out that the underlying reasons for her first rebellion and ultimate reconciliation are the reality that she is between two worlds and her pacifist orientation.
