40年代钱氏的小说创作是在国难、家累和失业的多重压力下以沉重的失落感甚至自卑感来叙写特定大时代里男性的存在状态的。其小说集中展现了男性的式微及精神的颓丧,嘲谑了男性的存在状态,同时包含了对女性中心话语的讽刺和对男性式微困境的感伤。

Qian Zhongshu created his novels in forties, at a time when his nation was at crisis, his family was in trouble and he himself was out of work. In this particular period of time, he was self- abased and felt lost. Burdening all these feelings, he wrote about the existence conditions of male in this specific time. In his novels, Qian mainly depicted the decadence and insignificancy conditions of the male world as well as their existence. In the mean time, he satirized the female - centered words and slopped over the loss of male - centered words.
