One of the most exciting and unpredictable tenors of the postwar era, Giuseppe di Stefano, who was born on July 34 1921. He died on March 3 this year at the age of 86, having reached the height of his tame in partnership with soprano Maria Callas on both stage and in recordings during the 1950s. Much later, their relationship went even further, when the tenor persuaded the diva to reactivate her career in a 1973 concert tour. It was something of a forlorn expe- rience that did neither artist succeeded in this concert tour. But nothing can detract fi＇om the golden days of Di Stefano＇s career, when he thrilled audiences with his exuberant singing and acting.
