This paper examines traditional FM transmitter and FM receiver architectures to understand the general architecture of FM systems. It also highlights multiple evolutions of FM tuners leading to the new digital low-IF architecture for FM receivers. In addition, the paper explains how this architecture enables high-performance and complete integration of an FM tuner with only one external bypass capacitor.
