Searching A New Approach for Drug Discovery Based on Chinese Medical Theory

中医学注重将药物运用于适合的患者,临床试验如果能够找到药物的精确适应症,药物的疗效才能真正被反映出来。初期的临床试验旨在通过比较有效与无效人群间的差别来获得与疗效有关的正负相关因素,从而明确药物的适应症。之后的临床试验则在明确药物精确适应症的基础上阐明药物的真正疗效。随着药物精确适应症的明确限定,其疗效也将有所提高,其临床使用也有了新的范围,一定程度上可以被认为是一种"新"药。因此,明确已有药物的精确适应症是"新"药开发的新途径。

Chinese medicine stresses the proper use of drugs on conformable patients, and real clinical efficacy of a drug could reveal only in case of the specific indication has been established. The clinical trial in early stage is aimed to find out the efficacy concerning positive or negative factors by comparing the differences between the cases treated effectively and ineffectively. The subsequent clinical trials are carried out to determine the exact effectiveness of a drug based on the establishment of specific indication. The effect of a drug would be elevated following the clearly qualifying of its specific indication. When a new scope is defined for the clinical application of a drug, it could be considered, to a certain degree, as a kind of ＂new＂ drug, so, it was suggested that to clarify the specific indication of an existent drug is a new approach for drug discovery.
