张爱玲一生熟读《红楼梦》,盛赞《海上花列传》,并且有意识地从这一传统中汲取创作所需要的资源,使其作品展现出独特的魅力。在她的长篇小说《十八春》中,这一文化传统的影响表现在两个方面:第一、在写法上,张爱玲有意识地模仿《红楼梦》中灵活变换的人物视角并以之代替西方现代小说较为严格的单一人物视角,具体表现为该篇小说开头部分所出现的"叙述跳角"和人物容貌描写上独具匠心的布局方式。第二、在道德问题上,《十八春》从个人对于家族的责任义务与对于情欲的适度克制这两个方面分析人物的品行,尤其强调前者所具有的重要意义,褒奖一切对于家族生计有所贡献的行为,具有较为明显的道德保守倾向,这也显示出与《红楼梦》、《海上花列传》相一致的评价标准。

Like the authors with conservative moral concept, Eileen Chang acclaimed the behavior that contributed to the family subsistence.
