Significance and Historic Mission of Educational Development of Ethnic Schools in the Southwest

西南民族地区经济社会和科技发展现实为西南民族地区的学校教育创生了独特的生存环境,发展西南民族学校教育不仅关系到提高西南地区民族人口素质、培养民族人才、弘扬民族传统文化、促进民族多元文化的传承和创新、促进西南民族地区改革开放和经济发展的战略问题,而且关系到增强民族团结、维护祖国统一和国家长治久安的政治问题,在西南民族地区社会进步和经济发展中具有较强的现实意义和历史使命。

The development of economic society, science and technology in ethnic minority regions of the Southwest China has created unique survival environment for school education in these regions. Developing ethnic school education in the Southwest is not only a strategic issue closely related to improvement of population quality, training ethnic talented personnel, promoting ethnic traditional culture, enhancing inheritance and innovation of ethnic multi-cultures and boosting reform and opening up as well as economic development in these regions, but also a political i-ssue related to strengthening solidarity among nationalities, protecting unification of the country and safeguarding national security and safety. It is of great significance and historic mission in social progress and economic development in ethnic regions in the Southwest.
