The 'exotic patterns' on the official suits in the early Tang dynasty,i.e.the 'big and small sections' among patterns for official use, correlate closely with the pattern of pearl roundels and pattern of confronting animals which originated from and prevailed in central and western Asia,so in the historic records of the middle and late Tang dynasty they are recorded as 'exotic patterns'.But these patterns actually possessed native features of China,so in general they should be included in the category of the 'Lingyanggong Patterns' created by Dou Shilun at the beginning of the Tang dynasty.
